The original Terbodore coffee roastery can be found situated in the picturesque meadows of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Several humble relocations, involving a garden shed and a garage, finally lead to a renovated barn on a farm in Curry’s Post becoming the Terbodore coffee production headquarters. These majestic lands were about to become a part of a very special journey.
The Midlands Meander route, on which our farm lies, is a beautiful landscape, the spirit of which can be found amongst the defined flavours of our coffee. When we first started out, we were supplying restaurants and accommodation in the Midlands area. The word of our supremely roasted beans soon spread. And in 2009, a demand grew for tasty delights and a place to enjoy the Terbodore country blend, so naturally a restaurant opened at the roastery, soon serving breakfast and lunch five days a week. Our menu grew nearly as quickly as the popularity of our Great Dane, Sultan, an ever present symbol of loyalty and patience, from which we take much inspiration.
Michael Macaskill, our son, competed in the 2010 provincial barista championships where Terbodore won the Café Society Best Cappuccino award in the Midlands area. Seeds were planted, thoughts were afoot, we knew more people deserved to taste our hand roasted craft, so in 2011 Michael opened our second roastery in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Franschhoek.
